On February 28, 2019 Sac Stonewall held an Advocacy Committee meeting at Kupros Craft House in midtown Sacramento. To view the minutes for the meeting, click here.

Committee members discussed the news that the San Juan Unified School Board is considering adoption of new curriculum that complies with the FAIR Act. Passed in 2012, the FAIR Act makes California the first state to specifically mandate study of Native Americans, African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, European Americans, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans, persons with disabilities, and members of other ethnic and cultural groups, with emphasis on the role of these groups in contemporary society.

San Juan Unified School District will be hearing comment on the adoption of LGBT-inclusive curriculum for K-8 History and Social Science on April 9th at their regularly scheduled school board meeting, and the vote will take place on April 23rd.

Committee members discussed sending a letter to San Juan Unified Board Members as soon as possible to show our support for the adoption of the new curriculum. The committee also discussed reaching out to other Sacramento area school districts for updates on their consideration and implementation of the FAIR Act.
