The Stonewall Democratic Club of Greater Sacramento has started 2018 in full swing with a slate of endorsements and financial contributions to LGBT and ally candidates! On Monday January 8th Stonewall members voted to endorse the following candidates for re-election in an early endorsement process.
Doris Matsui – Congressional District 6
Phil Serna – Sacramento County Supervisors District 1
Patrick Kennedy – Sacramento County Supervisors District 2
Jeff Harris – Sacramento City Council District 3
Lisa Kaplan – Natomas Unified School District
Jay Hansen – Sacramento City Unified School District 1
Don Saylor – Yolo County Supervisor District 2
Christopher Cabaldon – West Sacramento Mayor
These candidates have a long history of supporting Sacramento Stonewall and the LGBT community. As elected officials, they have turned to Stonewall for advice and guidance on policy issues affecting our communities. Stonewall is proud to support these candidates in their bid for re-election.
Stonewall members also voted to made Rosanna Herber a priority candidate in her candidacy for SMUD Board Ward 4. Rosanna is the former Stonewall PAC chair and long-time advocate of electing more LGBT people to public office. Many members stood up and voiced their support for Rosanna’s candidacy, praising her fearless advocacy and drive. Stonewall is proud to have endorsed Rosanna Herber and donated $5,000 to her campaign for SMUD Board.
In addition to a busy meeting of endorsements and campaign contributions, Stonewall highlighted local trans advocate JoAnna Michaels as a guest speaker. JoAnna told her story of working in the Air Force training pilots in survival training, building a successful career in the restaurant industry and moving to Sacramento in 2001 where she came out as trans and began living her truth. JoAnna now works with Volunteers of America helping homeless veterans get resources. She is working every day to make the VA and Sacramento more trans friendly.
In the coming months Stonewall will interview and endorse many more candidates for public office, contribute to their campaigns and encourage members to get involved in getting them elected. Stonewall’s mission is to elect LGBT and ally candidates for public office. We hope you will join us at our next meeting on February 12, 2018 at the Sierra 2 Center in Sacramento.
